"Just bought a pair of Magnum classic cens, thought they looked like what i was looking for, the design is very solid, the sole is touch, durable and extremely grippy even on wet ground! these are the first pair of boots i've bought, mainly because i thought that shoes gave much more manuverability however these boots provide that plus that nice vomfy, secure, snug fit feeling that you wouldnt get on most boots, i can run comfortably with these and still feel theyre new, the padding isnt so easy to flatten out. The padding around the top of the boot is such that im sure that after 8 hours of patrol it wont start hurting, they are very breathable, not once have i felt my feet get all sweaty, hot and odourous! Ii think that after these get worn out, ill be getting a better pair of boots, perhaps the new 8.0's, but i dont think that'l be any time soon as this pair seems to not want to give up! they keep giving and giving! "I work in the security industry and in varying roles from that of Close Protection to Door Supervisor to Trainer to Security Asessor (Qualification Sector)... I bought a pair of the early Magnum - Classic CEN (zipped sides) .. a bit disappointed with those as the nylon zip tended to 'giveway' if I was having to reject anyone from a Night Club.. I took them back after this happened on four occassions and the supplier swapped them withno quibble for non zipped and in the two years I have worn them, they have never let me down. No leaks, no splits, supple leather so no breaking in like my old forces boots. They were comfortable for the first 12 months and then needed some additional insoles for the latter 12 months... Not needed new laces either as they are lasting as long as the boots themselves unlike some rival makers. All in all condiering I have had these boots since 2007.. they have delivered comfort, protection and support.. They are also comfortable during driving periods which when moving round varying locations and different terrains is a relief from having to change every time I have to get on the move again... However, watch for wear on the soles and heels if you do a lot of hard ground movement as you will find that after a good percentage of the 'tread' has gone the soles lose their grip and become slippy on wet surfaces such as tiles, steel or metal manholes cellar doors and even some pedestrian areas such as cobblestone roads. I have come to lose traction in chase and literally gone head forward and landed on my rear end when chasing an offender round a corner and lost all footing.. in the dry however, not an issue.. a bit like having Bridgestones on a F1 Racing Car.. could be that the boots are tiring and need a replacement and I think I will definitely be looking at replacing them with the new specc 8' Magnums... for a low end cost boot... I would recommend it above may rivals" Read Less

They kept my feet warm and dry and they were extremely comfortable throughout my shift at work. They looked smart and were an ideal starting boot for the job that I do. "I got my first pair of Magnums in May 2007, and instantly loved them. Before I came across Magnum boots, I had been buying Caterpillar and Stone Creek boots, and going through them every 6 months or so. I'm VERY hard on my boots! When I tried on the Magnums, I couldn't believe how light and comfy they were - compared to other boots, it was like wearing nothing at all. That first pair of boots came with me to 3 festivals (were shoes and boots often die) and were worn everyday for 2 years, usually for over 7 hours at a time, and over distances of at least 5 miles. Unfortunately the sole began to become very worn down (and quite slippery in wet) so I bought myself a new pair. They've been to 2 festivals so far, and been worn virtually every day since then. I don't think I'll ever get boots that aren't Magnums!" Read Less

"I bought my Magnum Classics in the early part of 2007 to use in my new role as a Special Constable. Naturally, the first few months I had them for, they were only used at weekends and the odd night in the week. I was only a Special Constable for 6 months but during that time, the boots served me well. They went with me on marches, normal foot patrol, class room training, muddy fields, flooded roads and many more places besides. From the first day I wore them, they were like gloves. There was no need to break them in as they were so comfortable. The reason I left the special constabulary was that I had joined the force as a full time regular officer. The first 6 months of 2008 were spent sat in a classroom, and I wore the boots every day. They were easy to bull into a gloss like shine, and easy to wear all day. Since mid 2008 I have been pounding the beat every day, still wearing my trusty Magnum's. In that time, I have walked through rain, sleet, snow, and glorious sunshine and they have not let me down once. 12 hour shifts in a busy city are no problem to my feet (they tire me out but the feet are ok). Maybe I am lucky or maybe its the boots but my feet seem to breathe well and there are no issues with foot odour. Over the past 18 months I have scaled walls, fences, run through muddy and flooded fields, chased suspects on all terrains wearing my full kit including body armour, belt kit, hat etc and still have managed to catch the suspect who is invariably wearing trainers and tracksuit. This is mainly thanks to the boots on my feet. They are easy to walk or run in. They come with me on early morning raids, the adrenaline is going, its early, dark, and there is a team of us sneaking up to the door. You could hear a pin drop...suddenly a bang, the door crashes through, and there are 6 to 8 pairs of feet running through the now broken front door...""""POLICE"""" - """"STAY WHERE YOU ARE""""...thump thump thump up the stairs and 20 seconds after the first bang, all the suspects are secured. It doesn't matter what the job is or where it is, the Magnum's do it all...... After this length of time, the grip is starting to wear a little but they are still as comfy as the day I got them. The only thing I will ever replace them with is another pair of Magnums... " Read Less

"Who do you think I am? Military? Police? No, a student! Yes, Im a student at Lancaster University, UK and I have bought my first pair of Magnum boots. I haven't got round to testing them to the extreme, but I thought I'd share my experiences of the first week of my Magnum Classics. Friday: I had been looking for a good pair of boots that were waterproof, to wear as day to day and work boots. It was not until I went shopping and found Magnums in a well known high street outdoor store that I thought I would try them on after seeing them on the internet. I had put off trying other shoes because of their cost (most were well over £75) and also because of their everyday comfort. As soon as I had put the boots on, they immediately felt comfortable and supportive. As soon as I got them home, I tried them on, and ended up wearing them for the rest of the night. Saturday: Only wore them for a few hours, but already they have started to soften up a bit, as they have started to wear in?. After tying them up quite tight, I was worried that they might rub, but they gave me nothing but comfort and support. Tuesday: The weather started to get really bad here, raining throughout the night and causing severe floods in parts of the Lake District. Wore my boots to my lectures, and finally managed to get them muddy, so they didn't look brand new anymore. Wednesday: One of my friends commented on my smartness; I had black trousers, a black overcoat and my new boots on. Smart and rugged. Thursday: For the third consecutive day now I have worn my boots for over 12 hours at a time. Still they remain to be comfortable and don't rub. I was walking out the back door from one of my labs today, and forced down a wet, sloping, slippery path. Expecting to slip or slide, my boots gave me excellent traction, and I didn't slip over and end up looking like a right fool! Friday: The week has now passed and I have nothing but praise for my new Magnum boots. I am pretty sure I will be buying some more at some point, and I intend to spread the word about their quality. I would just like to say that I am not writing this just for free boots, nor would I appreciate it if you considered me as just another student looking for free stuff. These experiences are genuine, and if you don't believe me I suggest you get your own pair of Magnums. " Read Less

I've been using Magnum boots for the last few years in a few different jobs and I always seem to come back to the Classic. The first time I put on a pair of Classics I knew they were the boots for me. Solid build, comfortable, fantastic ankle support and brilliant quality. I wore them everyday until the were completely destroyed-it took nearly a year (out matching previous brands of boots by over six months). When they finally died I knew it would be an easy choice and went out and got another pair. However recently I bought a pair that didn't last as well, the stitching came loose after a few weeks- not enough to warrant a trip to the bin, but not the quality I was used to. After that pair of boots was retired I went out and purchased another pair of Classics (what can I say, I'm a creature of habit) thinking my previous pair were a one off (can't be perfect 100% of the time after all) and I bought my current pair of classics. Unfortunately a similar issue has risen with this pair as well as the stitching on the lower part of the boot is coming loose and the sole has developed a squeak when I walk. While this is not the end of the world, it has knocked the classic down in score from a solid 9 to a 6.5-7. While I do recommend Magnums on a regular basis, and still recommend classics to people who start out in my hobby and job (airsoft), I just hope the Magnum see and resolve these small issues before they become big ones and damage the reputation of an otherwise great product. Definitely good value for money, but for long periods of use I would recommend buying a lighter and comfier style instead. Read Less

I've had these boots for years, used them on parade, as a responder and at events as well as on the race track as a medic. I've never had any issues with the fit and the comfort - a boot that's quickly broken in and is comfortable from the start. Looks wise they come up a treat with a good polish and are a great parade boot. I've had trolley wheels run into and over my toes, dropped various things on my toes, had cylinders fall on them and used them around sharp bits of cars and they've kept my feet safe since the start. I've had them so long that there's a good few scuffs on the leather upper (and I've gone through a pair of laces or two) but they're built to last. Magnum is the name for boots and rightly so, I couldn't find a fault with these boots even input I tried to! Read Less

Currently work in retail and stand all day. For the past 7 years or so, have had 3 pairs of these boots and they are so comfy and provide support for the ankle. I wear them all the time, in work, when walking up in the hills (plenty here in wales). They have excellent grip on all terrains. Only gripe for me, is the eyelets, could do with extra support, as the current ones are starting to tear around cpl of eyelets. But it won't stop me buying another pair of these boots, as i will be replacing them very soon. Read Less

I have just received a pair of the new Classic Tac Spec boots. These are a brand new design for Magnum. On receipt of the box, i had to give it a shake to make sure there was something in the box, these boots are extremely light weight. On opening the box I was impressed by the look of the boots. They have a somewhat Fanned arcadia look to them, they have a half leather, half cordura build. There are padded sections to the ankles to prevent impact injuries to the ankle bones which is a nice touch. The laces extend further down the boot, towards the toebox to give a secure fit. It has standard lace eyelets, no quick lacing system. At the back of the heel, where the boot would crease, there is a cutaway section in the leather and replaced with a suede section which aids in comfort. The inner soles are the new ortholite system which seem comfortable from the first wear. I was surprised to see that they moved away from home designed soles and installed Vibram soles, this instills more confidence in the boot. I can't comment on durability at this time as i havent had a chance to put the boots through their paces, but wearing them around the house and an evening with my army cadets proved that they are immediately comfortable, with no breaking in. I'm intending to wear these boots daily, on patrol duties at work. I'm also looking to use them for army cadet evenings, which includes using them for fieldcraft etc. Due to the weight of the boots, I will definately use them for paintball, and they will get a proper run at the three 3 day urban games my team is playing in early next year. I will then update my review, i have high hopes for these boots. Read Less

Not only are the Magnums more comfortable and lighter they have also outlasted the leather boots and I didn't need to look after them too much. The downfall of the leather boots is that the leather dried out and began to crack but the Magnums (kept in the same conditions) are still going strong. I got my first pair of these boots provided to me by my employer. I initially thought, "oh my god look how tall they are". I have been wearing Magnum boots for years now, and can honestly say that the Classic Cen boots are ideal for my job as a Civil Enforcement Officer. They are comfortable on your toes, sole, heels and provide excellent support on your ankles. They ventilate well in the hot weather but also keep your feet nice and warm when its cold and icey. You dont need any special socks to enjoy these boots for long periods of walking. They polish up nicely and look good even after years of walking. The leather in these and other Magnum boots tend to be brilliant quality and the boots take very very little walking to wear them in comfortably. The only negative thing i can say is that the standard provided soles are not the best for shock and do wear down quite quickly - I have stuck a pair of Scholl Shock insoles in these boots and they go together wonderfully. My first pair of Magnums were the older style "Hi-Tec Magnum" Classic back in 2000. Reinforced toe etc, I loved these more than any other boot I've ever owned and wore them into the ground LOL. It was a couple of months later when I bought my 2nd pair that I noticed it was just "Magnum" and they dropped the Hi-Tec input. Initially I was perturbed and although I went for the Classic design again, they just didn't seem as well structured. Having worn them daily for a month I was soon corrected however and again I wore them into oblivion. The 3rd and my current pair (which shall soon need replacing) have once again kept my feet comfortable and safe. Now and again I've dabbled with other boots for work but none of them have ever given me the confidence I get from my Magnum Classic CENs. I'm only a short guy, so gaining a good inch and a half to two inches is an initial help, then of course you have the uncompromised design. My current position requires me to patrol up and down several flights of stairs every hour and your ankles can take a right hammering but the extra support I receive from these boots really minimize that effect. It's great to see so many other designs out there by Magnum now, but you know what?...the original Classic Cen suits me just fine. Perhaps if I make it through my police training successfully I'll upgrade to a more hardcore design but I can't think of one negative for the Classic design and I would always recommend them......whatever the situation. we were issued with this boot and it is used for general car park and hospital patroleing in all weathers so we put a lot of miles on these. first off thay are supposed to keep your feet cool by wicking away sweat but no this dosnt work in the summer we all sufer from hot sweety feet but the same can be said of meny other boots. the second fault or problem we all have encounterd is running to a incident from a wet car park to the hospital corridoors oftern results in us slipping around untill the water has dryd off from the sole from that point on thay grip very well. also the insole of the boots tend to harden with wear and can be a little hard on the feet. i did have to return one pare of boots the fabric on the heal wore out resulting in a hole which then resulted in a blister on my heal ( i used micro poor tape to cover the hole untill my new boots arived but the same thing has happend againe. ( i still have the boots ) this has happend to both pares that i wear. on the plus side thay have only let water in once and that was when we had a sever snow and had to try to clear roads to help free stuck cars the boots got so wet thay were saturated inside and out. but in general wet weather thay havent let me down. the soles grip very well in the dry and in the wet ( see above for the bad point) cosidering the amount of miles i have put on the boots the sole has lasted very well indeed. the leater has not cracked or ripped unlike other boots i have had. the point were the sole and leather upper are joind have never split or come apart again other boots have failed in this point. the tonge an fabric sides have also lasted very well no rips or tears as has the ankle padding. no eyes have come apart or pulled out again other boots have faild in this area. i have rated durability as 5 and thay deserve this fit is also a 5 very good fit comfort 3 due to the insole and heal problems with the 3 sets of boots failing in this area fit for use 3 the main problem is running from wet to dry and slipping . if the faults outlined were sorted you could not wish for a better boot for the sort of work i carry out . greg Read Less

I purchased my first pair of Magnum Classic's in early 2000. I was a mechanic at the time and they gave me the comfort and ankle protection and flexibility of foot that I needed without a steel toe cap (never got on with toe caps) That and they weren't too wide for some small car pedal configurations. I had these for 4 months before standing in an oil tray and swamping these with used diesel engine oil....thus rendering them useless for further use. I duely went and purchased my second pair of what at the time were called Magnum Classic's. They were made in Vietnam on the 15th September 2000. From what I remember some 12 years hence they required virtually no 'breaking in' and were comfortable from the word go. These boots have been with me everywhere and if they could speak could tell you pretty much the entire story of the last 12 years of my life. Everywhere I travelled they came- abroad, work, play, motorbike riding you name it I've done it in these boots. I weigh 11 stone and I would say that the soles arent worn out yet by any stretch. The toe cap on the right boot has finally split through where it flexes at the toes but hey they are 12 years old and I do a lot of bending down. The soles are beginning to part company with the uppers but I put that down also to just lots and lots of bending. The upper part of the boot is, apart from some obvious age related wear in incredible condition. Have I thrown them yet? No. I'm reluctant to bin them as they still have some use, they have been relagated to bin run and pop to the car runs. I have replaced them with some Magnum Panther 8.0's. Only because my local footwear supplier didnt have any Classic CEN in my size. Are they as comfortable...yes, but do they feel like my old Classics....no. The Classic is by far a superior boot and when my local supplier has some back in stock I will be purchasing said boot. Read Less

I have just started on my third pair of classic cen boots in 4 years. They last on average 2 years for me. I work for WMP on a response shift so do limited/no foot patrol. The only reason I replace them is due to the tread level getting low (I am heavy footed so wear through the tread of most shoes). The tops and main part of the shoe are always in good condition when i'm finished with them. They see all types of filth/muck both outside and inside houses, ( I usually use the jet wash to clean them). No leakage problems and well insulated for the cold but still good for the summer. Nice and light for when a bit of speed is required yet sturdy enough for everything I have encountered so far. I don't polish them apart from court appearances yet they still scrub up smart. They give good support for the ankles yet are not a mission to get on an off. Once you know your size you can wear them straight out of the box. The first day can be a little sore around the ankles but after that its like putting your old ones back on. My only real complaint is the laces, unfortunately they don't last as long as the boots(6 - 9 months on average for me) . I appreciate that they are under a lot of pressure so wouldn't expect much more to be honest. I did consider getting the zip model but more than happy with the classic model. Some of my colleagues rave about other brands of boots but they seem to change them more often. Over all I would highly recommend them to any one considering them as a good all round boot at a good price. Read Less

I am one of those people with a knack - a knack for wearing down footwear. I knew that when I joined the police it was possibly going to cost me money which I didn't really have. I had to get good boots and Magnum was the recurring name. I didn't have much money and found a good priced pair of Magnum Classics which I quickly bought. I enjoy the higher leg rather than ankle boot so these seemed ideal, I am able to tie my own laces so wasn't concerned about a zip. What really mattered was comfort. I would pay for a new pair every 4 months if they were comfortable. I couldn't do this job with blisters the size of fifty pences on my heels! These were unbelievable. No need to water them on a day off to break them in - they really were like comfy trainers, just a little away from slipper comfort. The ratio of material that was hard where needed and softer by the ankle and achilles was spot on and my trousers never got caught on the back - personal thing but I hate it... I can safely say they kept me dry and comfortable when walking and stood up to rigurs of standing still for hours and even chasing people. They polished well and the only thing I didn't do was bull them - I have others for that and will be in another review. I said I go through footwear quick and I expected to need new boots every 4 months-ish. I found the receipt the other day and that's what prompted me to review them. I no longer have them but I did have them for 2 years, 7 months and 16 days. It worked out as roughly 0.057 pence per day. Not bad at all. Enjoy your boots! Read Less

I got my Magnum Phantom about two years ago. They have been used during Drill practice, Tab Marches, Climbing, Fireld Exorcises and even out in the snow. They have kept my feet warm in the snow and are comfortable in Cadets. The blue fabric gives comfort and warmth while wearing them and the leather provides support for the ankle. If you can still get them then i highly recomment them for things like cadets. After two years they are still in fantastic condition odd scuff here and there the inside is a bit worn, and a very minor part of the sole come off at the toe but it doesnt affect how they work. My first pair of these boots were issued to me by the Ambulance Service and being a man with considerable experience of various types of boot from rigger boots all the way through to plastic winter climbing boots I was almost immediately happy with the Classic Cen. They were a touch too big for me at the beginning but I had next to no trouble in breaking them in with a 12 mile round trip walk every day to work. Slight rubbing at the heels simply stopped! I did nothing other than wear the things. In terms of day to day use they were extremely comfortable from day one. With my job alternating between sitting in an ambulance cab and running up 8 flights of stairs with kit I never in the 2 years the boots lasted had any cause to give them a second thought. In short they allowed for comfort, were a good fit despite not being fitted properly by me, I could run in them, drive in them and cycle inb them (though cycling was not the easiest unless you untied and unlaced the first two eyelts to allow for ankle movement). I have never had a boot last me more than 6 months irrespective of price or brand but the Classic Cen lasted me 2 years of which I used them for 18 months operationally then 6months for walking the dog. The downsides are few for the price but in terms of pre-hospital care they were not easy to keep hygenically clean especially after a messy job and though I never put them throough a washing machine they were jet washed several times and they were not easy to dry out. Being a high ankle boot they were not designed for nor would I advise popping them off to have a comfy snooze, however the side zip models allowed for this sort of caper. I would like to see them with stell toe caps just to keep the HSE happy as this is fundamentally lacking in a hositle emergency envirnoment with dopey firemen dropping hydraulic cutting gear on you! Loved these boots for varied, urban stlye work and would recommend them for anyone to use in Ambulance/Civil defence style work. Read Less

I have worn a few pairs of these boots over the last few years. I find the fit of these boots to be a little on the large size, requiring the use of thick socks to help fill the gaps, the sole is very sticky in all but the worst conditions, the full height of the boot allows for good ankle support on a day to day basis. These boots do take a little bit of wearing in but not much. I have found that if not wearing thick socks my foot tends to ride up and forward in the boot, causing painful toes and the odd blister on the heel, and wearing the thicker sock to improve the fit means they can get a touch warm in the summer. Generally I've found these are quite hard wearing boots, a pair will last approximately 6 months of 48hr+ use during a normal working week, with the main problem after this amount of time being that the leather upper starts to separate from the sole. Pros. Good ankle support. Comfortable. Little wearing in time. Good sole traction. Smart looking. Able to be highly polished. Cons. Fit is a little on the large size. Due to this a thicker sock is required therefore limiting summer use. After approximately 6 months of constant use the upper starts to seperate from the sole. Read Less

Over the years I've had 4-5 pairs of these boots and they have been all round the world with me from walking around Council estates on the UK as an RSPCA Inspector to chasing dogs on beaches in Sri Lanka following the Tsunami and even landslides in Malaysia. They are excellent and take everything I've thrown at them and held up. They have got soaking wet in the sea and covered in mud in the tropics and once dried out have polished up pretty well. In early 2005, my trusty black Doc Martens (with a distinctive hint of dark green) gave up the ghost after several years of service. I was then on the hunt for a suitable replacement, I bought a pair of boots (around the £30 mark) that I found to be laborious to work with, heavy and uncomfortable from Wynsors Footwear (which now stock one variety of Magnum boots, the Panther if I remember correctly). Working retail at the time, I was often on my feet all day, carrying boxes, getting up and down etc all before the mile or so walk home. After putting up with the cheap boots for a final time, I went to Manchester to find myself a pair of boots. Visiting Slaters Menswear, I saw many boots before I seen the Cen boots. I picked them up, felt inside with my hand (as I had learned to feel inside for the texture) and asked an assistant for my size (11) and to test them. As most people will tell you, upon first wearing them you feel the comfort immediately. Then you walk in them and they feel so light...needless to say I bought them on the spot (£59 at the time). From that point on, unlike my coworkers (especially the other lads), I wasn't extremely tired at the end of the day nor was I uncomfortable or happy to sit down and "rest my feet". After finishing retail, I'd find myself working in offices and warehouses all across North Manchester (let alone traipsing around Rossendale) in all weathers, not to mention going on trips to Wales, Southend-on-Sea and such. It should be noted, that up here in Rossendale, we get a lot of rain throughout the year and snow in the winter months and I never once slipped (but I did when wearing Docs! Ouch!). By mid-2009 though, due to my lack of maintenance, they were looking very rough indeed. Lots of chipping/marks where ignorant people had bumped into me (I didn't feel it; but they did!) meant I retired them to be my "gardening boots". Since that point I've tried New Rock shoes (cement shoes would be better), generic shoes (fall apart after a few weeks to a few months) and finally bought Doc Martens again which are still with me now, although they do lack grip in the winter months. I have had, since June this year, a pair of Strike Force II 8.0 WP boots, but that is a review for another time. Explanations in my scoring:- Durabilty, 5/5 - I take much better care of my boots than I used to, and used to trash boots and shoes. The fact they lasted so long in my (no) care is a testament to the build quality. Fit: 5/5 - They fit straight away and I never had any complaints. Comfort: 5/5 - As above with fit, they remain extremely comfortable throughout. So comfortable that with these, and my Strike Force's now, tend also to be used as slippers around the house! Fit for use: 5/5 - My only complaint at the time was that I couldn't get a steel-toe capped version, that being said they stood up to many thousands of miles in all weather conditions (being that they were my main - and sometimes only - choice of footwear) across any terrain I decided (although let's be honest, it was mainly pavements, paths and roads across England and Wales). Here's the real kicker though (pun intended!), there are much better and more specific introductions to the Magnum range that you just can't go wrong with. But if you don't want anything specific and, like I did at the time, want a boot that doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME!" as does the New Rock series of boots or be as distinctive as the Doc Marten boots - then the Cen will do you just nicely. So it's a "no" if you want something a bit more specific to your environment (and there is plenty to choose from), but a "yes" if you just want a no-nonsense boot that will give lots of use in the years you have it. These boots were made for walking as the song goes, mine have seen heavy use over the past two years.5days on and 5 off, working 10 hour shifts. So that equates to 3650 hours or 5miles per shift with total 1615 miles. This does not include social wearing of the boots as they are neat enough to do that. They have been used mainly on concrete covered with industrial carpet. So how have they performed? The uppers are as if it was day one. The sole is now showing signs of wear and the lining in the heal has worn through and is now inclined to give me the odd blister. They still polish up well. So now is the time for me to think of replacing them. Will I buy Classic Cen boots again, the answer is most certainly YES. Read Less

Magnum Classic CEN. As a photographer I find myself in some very contrasting locations, so decent boots are a must. My Classic’s are coming to the end of their useful life, after giving me three years of excellent and comfortable service. They have been worn in the wet and muddy landscape of Salisbury Plain , riot torn streets of London al the way down to walks in the local park. Throughout my military career and now in civilian life boots have been a major footwear choice for me, Magnum have never let me down. The classic boot has been the best to date by far, providing excellent value for money and most importantly comfort. Construction of the boot has to be said is far superior to many other manufacturers indeed these boots have outlasted a pair from another manufacturer by two thirds. I have experienced no issues with failure of any part of the boot including the laces they have simply worn out due to fair wear and tear. We were talking boots and he went lengths to tell me how his magnums are better than my dr martens:-) I was bit wary of magnums having a pair of duty lites CT shoes couple years ago. Their soles were worn and the heels after ONE day at work. They were wery hot and sweaty and after few weeks they werent smell roses either:-) Very light and comfy though. Nevertheless I was back to Docs very quickly. Too cut the story short the idea was born in my head why don't try magnums again but boots this time. So I went and bought myself a pair of Classic Cen. First impressions were good. I like the look of them. Very comfy. They have small issues of course. One of the eyelets was rough inside and was catching the laces, but with help of small file that was sorted in a minute. I have swapped original laces with the paracord as a routine aswell. So the day came I wore my new boots for work. On a hot day. In the car I have noticed something - I can drive with tightly laced boots! Nice try this with pair of assault boots. So far so good. At work I got few compliments about my footwear (I am known of being a boot freak and keep all my shoes/boots really shiny). 8hrs at work, nice and easy day of patrols/site office work. Very happy with my new boots so far. I felt really comfortable and my feet were quite cool definitely not sweaty. Second day the same. Still happy. Weekend came. Looking at my boots I have noticed somethig. Stiches between tongue bellow and boot insides were ripped in one boot. In second the same happened between tongue and bellow. After two days of light use! Never happen to any other pair of my boots be it Docs or army boots or even Dickies safety boots. I am still wearing my Magnums. I like them a lot to be honest. They are realy comfortable, look good taking polish nicely, my feet can breathe with them too. The are good boots but I don't expect them to last. Knowing that I definitely woudn't buy them. They're pretty breathable compared to MOD issues which from my experience are pretty crap. The only real problem I've had was that the laces frayed and snapped withing a a few weeks of little use, so this slightly annoyed me. I first bought a pair of Magnum Classic's at the age of 13 when I was just joining the Air Training Corps because they were recommended to me by the Cadets at 1330 Warrington Air cadets Squadron. When you first set eyes on them, you just know that these will be the boots for you. The design of the boot is of the highest quality and not only does it allow you to fall in love with it, it gives you that feel that it'll take you to hell and back with your feet in the most supreme condition. My journey to hell and back started with Field craft training with the Air cadets where we would patrol through the plains and woods of Nescliffe MOD training area. This was a true baptism of fire and water as the weather soon turned to heavy rain and high speed winds, accompanied with the rocky and gravel trails that ran through the Nescliffe training area. However, the Classic's provided consistent comfort and support needed to keep my feet protected and keep me going. Although this was a good baptism of the elements combined, only the true boots survive the unforgiving event that I had signed up too, the Nijmagen Road Marches in Holland. This is a 100 Mile Road march that must be completed in 4 days in up to 40'c heat with humidity at 70%+. But before I could even go to Nijmagen, I had to complete the RAF WARMA two day March around RAF Cosford, a gruelling 50 mile march around Hilly terrain and cold conditions. Through out Cosford my feet stayed blister free and in the best condition. Other cadets were using basic military boots and they complained that the boot was uncomfortable and that they were too heavy making there feet drag and blister along the route. As many of the readers may be wishing to here, I can confirm that the Magnum Classics provided extreme comfort and support as well as being lightweight, completing the task of being an elite boot. During the Nijmagen marches I took good care of my boots with polishing and cleaning after each night and they too in return looked after me. I completed the unforgiving event with feet in such a good condition that later that night, I along with the rest of my team went out into the Nijmagen city in shorts a t-shirt and our Magnums to show off how amazing these boots truly are! To all readers, I can not tell you how much I love these boots. I have owned two pairs of Magnum Classics and never have I wished too own anything else. These boots not only look great but they feel superb and are something that you should definitely invest in. These boots have taken me to hell and back and the pair I currently own now, I've owned for 2 years and they still feel great and look amazing. Please, buy these! Dave Read Less

I got the opportunity to do a course in Catterick last year. When choosing kit for the week I packed an old pair of Classic CEN as a spare pair of boots. I'd had them a good while and used them for all sorts over the years, even regularly as motorcycle boots for my daily comute in all weathers. I originally bought them as a general purpose boot but never really used them as a main boot although for the weeks course they became my boot of choice. Mostly because although packed as a spare I neglected to pack my main boots!! I didnt much like the very straight back but after a bit of wear they do mould in well. I speed laced them for ease of use and the bellows tongue acted as a nice pad for the front of the foot. The leather uppers took a bashing, from wet grass to dry stoney dust they kept on doing the job. Although not designed for maxcimum waterproofing the material part of the upper is certainly good enough to keep out splashes. Feet kept cool even after 20 odd hours in the boots. By day 5 the boots looked well used to say the least but once I flicked a brush over them with a little polish they were back looking like new. Like all boots or shoes they need wearing in but once thats done they are an excellent duty boots for everyday use and on the plus side if things go a little crazy they will stand up to that too no problem. Like I said I've had them years and they have paid for themselves many times over, now they are retired. Loose laced tops rolled over and see active service taking out the bins or up ladders clearing the guttering. I's still be wearing them to work but I've worn the soles badly over the years covering many many commfortable miles. If you want a day to day boot you wont be disappointed with these. Read Less

(Hoofing means awesome by the way) I've owned a few pairs of these boots over the years and found them to be great. The first pair lasted a year and a half of constant wear, use and abuse. This was in field conditions, working around camp and also during my placement with the ambulance service. In the end they were still serviceable after 18 months but, as I had another 2 pairs I had been issued and they were starting to get a little ragged, I decided to switch to my next pair. Pros: 1. Comfort! The classics provide a good level of ankle support and at the same time give the lower legs the range of movement needed for intense exercise and activity. The inside of the boot is comfortable and the insoles provide a decent level of support. 2. Weight. These feel like wearing a pair of running shoes. A true blessing after wearing the clunky full-leather issued boots. I found this to be an added bonus during PT on the assault course as I could move much faster than anyone wearing normal issue boots. 3. Pain relief. In the past I've had problems with Periostitis (inflammation of the outermost covering on the bone) in my shins due to running in bad/ill-fitting boots. Within hours of first wearing these I noticed reductions in shin pain and swelling. The usual ice regime wasn't required which was, as can be imagined, very welcome. It may not be the case for everyone but these boots provided my legs with the respite they needed to recover (and still be able to do my job). Cons: 1. Durability. While not a huge issue as I did subject them to a fair bit of abuse (mud runs, field firing, yomping etc) these are not quite as durable as a full leather boot. I noticed after about 7 months that gaps started appearing between the toe of the boot and where the sole meets as the glue started to give way. The only other issue was that the soles wore down on the the rear heel quicker than expected (more due to my gait than anything else). That all said, at the end of 18 months they were still usable and I could confidently say I would have gotten, at the very least, another 6 months out of them. Overall: A decent pair of boots - well suited to work in either a military camp, ambulance or police/security setting. The fabric uppers mean they aren't really suited as field boots due to the fact that they aren't waterproof but they do provide a VERY comfortable fit and good level of support. Excellent for running and PT and they do shine up well if you work in a role where that kind of thing is important. Read Less

So, a little background information. I'm an airsofter, airsoft is similar to paintball without the mess and much, much more realism. I've been airsofting for over a year and have had 2 boots. The British issue army boots to begin with, then the Magnum Classics. The reason I switched from the British issue army boots is because I felt, although durable, they were far too heavy and therefore restricted my play. I looked around for a long time, asking others and reading reviews. I wanted a pair of boots that were; Durable Comfy [a] Well known [manufacturer] Tested [by many] And finally, were recommended by many. But ultimately they had to be affordable! I know from numerous recommendations that Magnum were the boots to go for. They were tested by many and had no complaints. Now I wanted a pair that were affordable, comfy and light. The classics scored it for me when I was talking to a friend and he told me the classics took all those boxes. So a few days later, I looked around trying to find the best price. And ended up buying a pair for 50GBP posted. Fast forward a couple of days and they were in my hands. Though really, they should of been on my feet ;) So, I look at the box, and it's not over the top, but it looks smart and the colours are clean. So upon opening the box, I find a pair of black Magnum Classics. First impressions - I liked the look of them. They looked better than the British army issue boots and were more stylish. So I picked them up and looked around, closely, at the boots, because from previous experiences of shoes, I had gained experience that just from looks, some shoes had errors, the quality control was bad and they had poor stitching in places which made them susceptible to break. I was dying to try them on, to test how light they were, and how comfy they were. Upon first setting my foot into the boot, I found they were actually a struggle to put on. I think it's because I hadn't 'broken into' them yet. Though after a minute or two of struggling to put them on, I was in, and I had to do the ol' walking around in them to see if they're for me. I found them to be heavier than trainers, but much lighter than the British army issue boots. This was a plus. I realised they'd never be as light as trainers because of the high quality materials used, though for them to be just slightly (though noticeably) heavier was fantastic. Though they were actually comfier than trainers. Kind of comparable to trainers, with a thin sheet of foam inside. So now they'd ticked the comfortableness and lightness boxes, they had to be tested for durability. Because whilst it's all good having comfy and light boots, they need to be able to withstand woodland terrain and most importantly, protect my feet. So with an upcoming airsoft skirmish, I polished my boots and it came around quickly. After the skirmish, I was delighted to find NO blisters and have no sore feet. They also didn't sweat much in the Magnum Classics. The magnum classics were more than able to withstand the woodland terrain. They took no damage par a few scratches, and the boots were in one piece. My one criticism would be that the laces weren't very 'strong' as such, and so were susceptible to rip quite easily. The soles were absolutely solid and couldn't be broken with a sledgehammer, though I'm not sure any strong rubber could be broken with a sledgehammer.. so maybe that was a bad metaphor. Regardless, the point being, even sharp stones won't tear the strong rubber soles so there's no worries that the bottom will get destroyed by any elements. Two skirmishes on and it feels like the first time I wore them, though my feet have broken in now and so are more comforted by the boots. The value was great, there are no competitors for these boots, if the quality and price are to be taken into account. To recap what could be improved; . The boots need to be easier to break in to. . The laces need a thin plastic casing like the end of the lace does, so they don't rip. That's the only negatives of the boots. For the money, there's no better. I whole heartedly recommend these boots. Thanks for reading. Read Less

I have been wearing multiple pairs of the Classic Cen for several years now. My job, manager of a hotel and busy town centre bar means I'm on my feet anywhere from 10 to 18 hours a day. Footwear is highly important and these boots have excelled in every aspect, with just the insoles supplied with the boots I have never had any problems with comfort or overheating. More recently I undertook a 1500km walk across France & Spain following an old pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela, raising money for UNICEF (www.thewaytosantiago.com). I was persuaded to look into 'proper' walking boots for my trek which cost considerably more than the Magnum range. Day one and I had massive blisters, luckily my parents showed up to take the overpriced 'walking boots' away and deposited my year old pair of Classic's. With plasters in place, I walked in the Classic Cen boots, untied (this is how I wore them at work most of the time), with a 28kg backpack, I had new cushioned insoles put in when I got to Condom, due to the weight of the backpack!?! I continued all the way to the Pyrenees. At this point the only thing I noticed was the soles were wearing down on the heals, so I started lacing the boots up properly. I had heard Magnum were big suppliers in Spain so I planned to buy another pair in Pamplona. I searched and searched, town and internet, but to no avail. I did however mention the Magnum brand so much in my fundraising blog, that if anyone typed into Google 'Magnum boots Spain', my blog would appear top of the list... Instead, a very kind shoe repairer in Pamplona re-soled the heals of my boots for free (I was a pilgrim after all...) and so the same boots continued, with new heals. By the time I reached Leon, my soles were thinning out to the point I could feel stones under my feet when walking on tough terrain, so back to the repairers for completely new soles and new insoles. Now the repairs made me an inch taller as they basically stuck the new soles onto what was left, also the weight probably doubled. Otherwise within two days they felt brand new again. Now generally at the end of this pilgrimage, people burn their boots (or socks) at Finisterre, but my Magnum's smelt fresh as a daisy, still do in fact. They saved my feet, they supported me over a 1000 miles and they're still in one piece. I'm back home now and still wearing them. I also ride motorcycles and wear them when I don't want to put my proper bike boots on. So to surmise, these boots have been put to the test in several different ways and I can't fault them. If I was being really picky perhaps maybe I'd suggest a tougher material for the sole?! But really, these boots are just Classic, they do the job...any job! Read Less

This is my third pair (which I put into store new about 8 years ago, when I got them in a sale)... Since then, I've been through some Oakleys (overpriced, not quite as durable), Timberlands (shockingly bad), and Caterpillars (good, but HEAVY) or I've been using my old Red Wings for riding or Brasher walking boots for hiking (obviously). The point is, that I forgot that I only need one boot for most occasions - the Magnum Classic. They're light, very comfortable, and support my feet and ankles really well. They're like old friends. I spend a lot of time out in the woods, and the Classics are perfect. Sure, they're not 100% waterproof; but they dry out really quickly. Try and dry out a pair of waterproof boots that have been waterlogged, and you'll appreciate the Classics as I do. They're also a bit of a design classic now, so that gives them well deserved kudos like my old Red Wing 2268 Engineers' Boots. Only criticism? I wish they had 550 Paracord laces. I must admit, I bought these boots quite a long time ago, way before my Elite II 8 Leather and Nylon SYMPATEX magnums, which for some reason I cannot find on this website. Anyway, I bought them at a local store for about £40, I've been on 4 field craft camps, and I've done quite a bit of road marching in them, as soon as I got my Elite's, they were left at the back of the wardrobe, so after about 2 field craft camps the sole on my Elites started coming off, most likely due to a problem in the factory, most of my mates have them and they never got that problem. So the Classic Cens came out again, and although I found the Elites quite a lot more comfortable, I feel much more confident in the cheaper Cens. They might not have the Vibram sole etc. but they are just perfect, so far they've done 2 more camps and the airborne march in Holland, they still feel like brand new! I'd really recommend this boot if you don't want to spend too much money, but want to get a reliable, versatile and above all, easy to maintain boot. Perfect for cadets etc. Read Less

After becoming a Security guard 4 years ago, I struggled to find a boot which could remain comfortable after 12 hours use, be worn on multiple days without causing agony to my feet, and could look after my feet on the odd freezing night shift. I was actually considering leaving a job I loved just because of the strain it was having on my feet, and my finances, what with having bought a fair few rubbish boots. Three years ago, a friend told me about his Magnum classics, and how comfortable they were throughout his entire shift. After investing in yet another pair of boots I found that he had not oversold them at all, these boots have been able to handle running, climbing, extreme cold and wet conditions, and also (rarely) hot sunlight, without harming my feet at all. I will admit that the first cold night I used them, my feet were a little cold, but after buying a £1 pair of fleece insoles, I have had no further issues with them whatsoever. as long as you regularly polish them liberally with dubbin, my first pair looked after me for around two years before I decided to replace them with another pair, although I still use them when my newer pair are left a little less than presentable and I don't have the time to clean them. I regularly use my Magnums upwards of five days a week for driving, walking, and whatever else is required in my job, and honestly feel that they are the most important part of my kit, closely followed by a decent torch. My first pair of boots when joining the Police were the Magnum Classic. From the moment I pulled them on they were very comfortable. Over time they have never given me any problems and are still very comfortable to wear. They have been worn on general patrol, public order and event policing. I find them easy to run in and are very lightweight (Being the 'young un' on the shift I always seem to be the one doing the chasing). The laces in my classic boots are the originals and they show no signs of giving up the go. The soles have worn down over time (to date 3 years) but this is to be expected. The side walls of the boot are still very much intact with the leather upper. I now have my Classic's as a spare pair in my locker since upgrading (of course with Magnum) and know for a fact I can rely on them at any point. In short the Magnum Classic offer good all round durability and as for value for money these boots are second to none. You will not go far wrong purchasing a pair of these boots! Read Less

These boots are comfortable and well priced but not for the field. Absolutely fantastic for light duties, barracks and you can get a really good shine on them to impress the old RSM. I went through 2 pairs of these trying to use them on exercises, burnt out the sole/treads on the bottom, the leather wore really quickly and they are not water proof and offer only a little angle support, a pair with a harder sole would be great for summer use as these to allow you feet to breath but are light weight and compromised because of this for field work. Since mid-2006 I have been wearing Magnum's 'Classic Cen' Similar boots need 'breaking in' 'wearing in' etc. There's me, thinking the boots will take "AGES" to get comfortable...... you could never be so wrong. After a couple minutes, laces done up throughly and they are ready to go with no hassle of walking round waiting for them to get comfy! My Classic Gens were then put through there paces in the mud/sand/snow and still are to this day! Mud: They get muddy, oh yes there certainly do! but very, very easy to clean. These boots have been caked in mud so bad that they were mistaken for a dark camo. Sand: No, not quite the sands of the middle east (yet) but the sands in Cyprus. Its windy, there's sand blowing in your face and your boots are taking a battering. Where every grain is trying to seep through. But not these boots, they have a neat little piece of material between the laces and the tougnue which stops sand seeping through! No sand inside!. Snow/Ice/Water: You saw those cold days were the snow was blocking the roads and the only way was by foot? Don on these boots and you have warm, comfotable & waterproof boots which you can rely on! You saw that pavement? looks slippy doesnt it? well not today, these rubber soles have a sturdy grip which stops you from losing the ground beneth you! These boots have been everywhere with me, they have been on the hills, in the streams and on the parade ground. (even flying) I have even recommended anyone I knwo who is out to buy boots to get a pair of these and they really are the best boots I have ever worn and the Magums can only get better. comfortable, warm, durable and tick all the boxes! The Magnum Classic is a very basic day-to-day boot that provides well for a ‘bobby on the beat’. Joining the world of Law Enforcement in 2007, the Magnum Classic was recommended to me by my colleagues to be, and apparently to the majority of my fellow probationary Officers on my in-take! For a first boot, it was suitable as an all-rounder and served me well whilst at Police College as it polishes well with a bit of dedication and holds its look. Protection wasn’t too much of a concern at this stage in my career so I was satisfied with the comfort and look provided. I didn’t know what to expect entering into the real world of modern day Policing so I was more than happy investing in this very cheap product instead of buying inappropriate footwear or overcompensating by buying something that would be a bit too much for general duties. The Magnum Classic is very lightweight and practical, but sacrifices protection in its construction. The boot is sturdy and to this day maintains its integrity with no separations between the leather and sole. I eventually had to replace my boot due to wearing of the sole, but that is purely due to the requirements of the job and was to be expected. I still however have the boots for mundane tasks out of work, now three years on. The product description I read boasted about the “durable lace with improved abrasion resistance” however, when the inside of the lace rings is quite sharp any lace isn’t going to last that long – this is my only gripe with the product which isn’t too bad! After leaving the Police College and experiencing the real world of policing for a number of months and found out what I really needed from a boot, I opted to move on to bigger and better things, seeking better protection, support and grip – staying with Magnum of course and purchasing the Magnum Elite Spider 8.0. As previously stated, the Magnum Classic is a good all-rounder, satisfactory first boot and provides well for a “bobby on the beat”. Johnathan Read Less

First off, I'm not in any defence force or police force. I'm a paintballer and as such can't really comment on how these boots would be like for day to day use. However, I can say that these are some of the most comfortable boots that I have worn in a long time. OK, the review. About a month ago I decided that I need new boots to use on the paintball field. I play milsim paintball and thus decided that I needed something that will go good with the whole camo look. I found a shop that sells Magnum boots and started fitting them on, comparing price and fit as I was going along. I didn't buy any that day, but went home and started surfing the net, looking for reviews. Found this site and read every single last review on here. I then made up my mind and last week I went to go buy myself the Classic boots. I have been wearing them to work now a couple of days, and today I got the chance to take them out for their intended purpose. Oh, what lovely shoes these are. My feet never felt uncomfortable. Running in very loose sand didn't present any problem and after the day was out I actually didn't have the need to just get them off my feet. Compared to the shoes I use to play with, a pair of very expensive hiking boots, these are so much better suited. Being the cheapest shoe that Magnum make, I expected them to be less than perfect, but they are light, comfortable and offers support that few hiking boots can claim. I'm actually contemplating using these as my boots of choice now. There is however on or two areas that they were less than ideal in. First, these are boots that get very hot when you are running in the field in 35 degree C temperatures, but I don't think any boot will cope well in that circumstances. Second, because they are new boots with quite a bit of leather around the toes they do pinch a little bit when one kneels down. I guess that will eventually sort itself out as the leather start getting more supple. In closing, I can see why quite a lot of the guys that play with me wears these boots. For the price you will not get a better boot. I will be adding a follow-up to this review in a couple of months time. I believe the review will be just as positive then, as it is now. Read Less

My first pair lasted for about 2 years (May 07 - May 09), and after they died, I got another pair. I've worn them to 5 festivals, hitch-hiked from North West Spain to SW London in them, walked miles and miles, and generally been quite rough. The uppers are in almost perfect condition, just a scratch or two, and a slight pull around one of the eyelets. I'm still on the original set of laces too! Sadly, the soles are battered. The heels are completely worn down, and according to Timpsons, would cost £60 to resole (which is at least £10 more than I paid for them in the first place). So I'm on the hunt for a new pair of boots. I'm thinking of going for one of the Stealth Force boots (although the Shield is my favourite, I can't afford it). Read Less

I'm a member of the Army Cadet Force and have been using the Classic Cen boots for just over a year. I have found the boots absoloutely brilliant to wear and are high on the comfort scale. I've had three pairs of boots during my cadet career, and the only pair not to give me blisters are the Classic Cen, which helped me to decide that these would become my field boots, as that is when you most need comfortable boots. During expeds, where we can be walking up to miles at a time up and down hills, these really are the best boots to wear seeing as they are comfortable, have good grip and can withstand the terrain and weather. Unfortunately the Classic Cen boots don't shine as nicely as the Army Standard Issue Boots and dont meet the standards of the Drill squad and so I can't wear them for parades, which is unfortunate because the Issue boots arn't as comfortable. The boots are easy to lace up and are light which is another benefit especially when I need to carry them in my bergan (However they're mainly the boots I wear, so thats not often) Overall i would reccommend the Classic Cen boots to anyone looking for a pair of boots that are long lasting, provide great comfort, and can withstand sun or rain, mud or snow, who want a light pair of boots that are easy to lace and all round brilliant. I bought this boot during my first year in the army. Now I am Lt. and still happy with those boots, as they are comfortable when using them for training etc., but I wouldn't wear them in a foreign assignment or for other demanding missions. I work in the security industry and in varying roles from that of Close Protection to Door Supervisor to Trainer to Security Asessor (Qualification Sector)... I would recommend it above may rivals Read Less

The one problem I had was the wearing down of the sole, which seemed to happen rather quickly, but this didn't affect the overall feel and comfort of the boot and made it to two and half years of sevice before being replaced. I got my first pair of Magnums in May 2007, and instantly loved them. I don't think I'll ever get boots that aren't Magnums! Read Less

I have been a Police Officer for 28 years. I originally used to wear Dr Martin boots, but since discovering the Magnum boot, I wear nothing else. I find the Magnum boot is the most comfortable boot on the market from the first time you wear it, it feels like you have worn them for years. My role now involves a lot of standing still in all weathers and having a decent comfortable pair of boots is imperative. My son has also recently joined the Police Service and after my recommendation has purchased a pair for himself. I have a further 2 years of service to perform and fully intend to continue to the end of my service wearing Magnum boots. Read Less

I bought my Magnum Classics in the early part of 2007 to use in my new role as a Special Constable. You could hear a pin drop...suddenly a bang, the door crashes through, and there are 6 to 8 pairs of feet running through the now broken front door..."POLICE" - "STAY WHERE YOU ARE"...thump thump thump up the stairs and 20 seconds after the first bang, all the suspects are secured. It doesn't matter what the job is or where it is, the Magnum's do it all...... After this length of time, the grip is starting to wear a little but they are still as comfy as the day I got them. The only thing I will ever replace them with is another pair of Magnums... Read Less

Who do you think I am? Military? Read Less

I have left the army now but I run a paintball site called Action Paintball, here in the UK. I have now found a new use for the boots due to their light weight and durability I am now using them for playing paintball and have recommended them to many of my marshalls. Read Less

I have worked within the police service for just over three years now. From the day I started I bought myself a cheap pair of magnums thinking it would just get me started until I decided where I wanted to specialise and what boot would suit me better. However, I am still wearing the same pair of boots! They are extremely comfortable and I have had no problems with them whatsoever! I was issued with a pair of boots for a difference role which I have only worn once, nothing compares to my magnums. It is certainly awell renowned brand and half of the people I come across within my line of work all wear magnums. If i visit security firms, 9/10 security guards also have a pair on. To have sold this many boots must mean they are doing something right. Unfortunately after having a few chases and rolls on the floor mine are starting to get a bit scratched so I will be investing in a new pair soon as mine don't look as smart as they used to. Fantastic boots, will certainly be sticking to magnums in the future! Read Less

Buying almost any of the Magnum equipment (I have full leather classic CENs) and you can use them for hill walking, urban patrol/walking and travelling. In fact they come into their own when travelling, you only need one shoe/boot as when worn under trousers they look like normal posh black leather shoes but are actually very comfortable to wear all day and walk miles in when carrying a rucksack.Having travelled a fair bit in a variety of shoes and boots I can say they are great allrounders. I'll always have a pair of either mid height or full height boots. Read Less

I first heard about Magnum boots from my local army surplus and camping store. At first I wasn’t keen on the idea, having worn standard British army boots and not getting on well with the lack of comfort. However, a year or so later I’d worn out my previous walking shoes and wanted something more supportive but yet supple enough to run in. Reading sparkling reviews online from enthusiastic owners I decided to give the Magnum classic full leather boot a try. I normally had problems getting a boot or shoe to fit my foot and then wearing them in for a month or two. To my surprise, after a little walk around my house and surrounding areas the magnums fitted nicely, with great support and freedom at the same time. The full leather means they’re great for all the long grass, mud and wet conditions I walk in and they clean so easily. All you need is to use the original Nikwax (the solid stuff) to cover the boot and then heat it slightly with a hairdryer to allow the leather to absorb it. I treated them once and they didn’t have a problem for months. The sole, though obviously originally designed for urban areas and not woods, gives great grip in most conditions and only really having a problem in very boggy areas. The plastic formed toes caps work well at stopping stubbed toes and allow the boot to be light enough to wear all day. I’m not sure about the plastic formed piece at the heel, I wear thick socks in these boots and it didn’t cause a problem but with thinner ones it might perhaps be annoying. The idea that you can buy steel toed ones of these is great as I need to use safety shoes for work and would mean I don’t have to buy loads of different shoes for every occasion. After a good 2 or 3 years of abuse mine are still going, (the leather is still great but as with all boots and shoes the sole is wearing). A testament to how ruggedly they are made. Read Less
