Utilising a vast wealth of knowledge and experience, the Magnum UST, and the Hi-Tec Viper push the extremes of technological advancement.   Designed to be solid and robust, whilst remaining lightweight, comfortable and functional; Magnum and Hi-Tec are now able to offer the British Army two hugely versatile training shoes.

This is the company’s first ever contract direct with the MOD and has resulted in both products gaining a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) stock number.  This will allow the company to sell the products to any of the other 28 independent countries who are members of the NATO Alliance.

This is just the latest in a series of success stories for the company.

Late last year, under the parent company Hi-Tec Sports UK Ltd, Magnum also won a slice of the MOD’s £80million contract to kit out British troops with five styles of state-of-the-art combat boots to meet the demands of different types of operation.  The proud British brand won the tender alongside various other companies to become official supplier of a Lightweight Patrol boot in the new brown colour to the British Army for the next four years.

Furthermore, the beginning of 2013 saw Magnum secure a contract to supply heavy duty combat boots for the Danish Military.

Magnum intend to commercialise both the Magnum UST and the Magnum Scorpion in brown, both of which will be available to buy later this year.

From Spring 2013, all Service personnel will receive a new range of brown combat boots to replace the black and desert combat footwear they currently wear.

The Magnum Lightweight Patrol Boot, which is based on the Magnum Scorpion (a popular choice of footwear since 2009), has been chosen as one of two boots in the Lightweight Patrol category, which will be worn by mounted troops in temperate climates.

The upper, manufactured from suede and 1150 denier nylon, has a Breathe Right™ lining to ensure breathability and comfort.  It features a speed lacing system for ultra-quick donning and doffing and will maintain a good fit to keep the foot secure.  Ergonomically designed, this boot also utilises Agion™ Antibacterial Treatment, which is inhibits the growth of microbes within the sockliner and will keep feet fresh all day long.

Magnum intends to commercialise the new brown Scorpion and are planning to bring it to market later this year.  To  compliment  this  boot, Magnum are also considering commercialising the Sidewinder WPi  (marketed  last year as  ‘a  new  breed  of  combat footwear’) and its newest  elite  product,  the  Classic Tac Spec (built for speed in comfort with a traditional look), in the new brown colour.

When it comes to purchasing a new pair of Magnum boots, no matter what you need them for or what you need them to do, nothing is more important than making sure you have the right size!

There are a few basic tests you can do when trying on a new pair of boots which should allow you check you have the right size without voiding your right to return the goods to the seller.  It is no good giving the boots a proper field test by thrashing them on a shift because under Distance Selling Regulations you have a duty to take reasonable care of the goods in your possession if you want to return them.

The first test we here at Patrol Store like to do is put both boots on (with the kind of socks you would expect to be wearing on duty) and lace them up as you would for normal use. Then in your house walk up and down the stairs a couple of times.  If you feel your toes touch the end of the boots then they are too small and you will need the next size up, if your heel comes up off the footbed and you feel the back of the heel slide against the back of the boot then the boots are too big and you need the next a size down.

If the “stair test” is inconclusive and you are still unsure of what size you need then there is a second test that is commonly used.  First off loosen the laces so that you can push your foot forward so that your toes touch the front of the boot (they should just touch the front of the boot, not be bunched up or under pressure) then slide a finger down the back of your heel.  You should just be able to touch the footbed.  If your finger wont go all the way down then the boots are probably a size too small, if you have more than a fingers width of room then chances are the boots are a size too big.

If you find you are between sizes, say a size 9 is too small and a size 10 is too big, then you can fit an extra thick insole like the Magnum M-P.A.C.T insole with memory foam.  This is slightly thicker than the normal footbed and will just make the boot fit a little tighter without going down a whole boot size.

The upper is constructed from sport mesh giving maximum breathability and flex, with synthetic overlays in strategic areas ensuring it retains the critical support required.

A reinforced heel counter and toe box, along with a flared EVA midsole, provide enhanced support and depth cushioning dispersing impact shock through absorption whilst allowing maximum return.

The Magnum UST goes one step further by incorporating a custom designed high spec Vibram rubber outsole featuring multi-directional lugs - a high performance platform delivering extreme levels of traction, grip and support.

UPPER

The upper is manufactured from waterproof Magnashield leather and 900 denier Nylon.  It features a Blucher Lacing System for better fit adjustment, a padded mesh collar for additional comfort, durable non-metallic composite hardware, a moisture-wicking lining and an abrasion-resistant heel kick panel.

MIDSOLE AND INSOLE

As well as being a moisture-wicking footbed that incorporates arch and forefoot ventilation for breathability and comfort, the contoured moulded EVA insole offers both cushioning and support.  All three Cobra boots also contain a composite shank for lightweight support.
