Three years ago, in August 2010, I bought my first set of Magnum boots: the Stealth Force 8.0 Leather CT CP. Now, in September 2013, I bought my second set, the Stealth Force 8.0 Leather SZ CT CP WPI. This review will share my three years of experiences.

When I just bought the boots, I posted in the following weeks a few reviews. I assume you haven't read them, and you don't know me. So let me introduce myself. I'm Gerard and live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It's a flat, rainy country with a lot of bikes. Until fairly recent I was a student, but now I'm a freelance editor. Not the heavy duty line of work which requires this kind of boots. But being a cheapskate, I wore these boots all the time. In summer, winter, with sunshine and rain (or even snow), walking and biknig: just all the conditions you could encounter as a regular Dutch joe. It's also good to note that I didn't take proper care of them. I must have missed the instructions on the inside of the box back then, a mistake I'm not going to make again.

So, now that you now what my shoes had to endure, it's time to share my three years worth of experience.

    How do they fit?
I'd lie when I say they fitted perfectly from the start. For a small fraction they weren't wide enough. But after a few weeks they did fit very smoothly, and still after three years they fit like a glove.

    What's the quality?
One complaint I always had with shoes, is how quickly the strings snap. I guess it's just me, but with me strings don't seem to survive the first half a year. Normally I use several strings per shoe in its lifetime. Not in this case. After three years the strings are still the original ones, and I'm going to save them beyond the shoes.

And the quality of the shoe itself?
It's sturdy, that's one thing for sure. The first time I polished them was only a couple of months ago, so you can imagine the shape they are in. But still they keep the water out, except for the hole I got in it.

    Hole?
During the past three years my shoes suffered on three major points:
    1. After only a couple of months one of the stringholes ripped of the shoe: the clothy one between the holes in the shoe itself and the ones in the upper part. In due time the other three ripped too: I consider this a weak point of the shoe. Luckily the strings are so tough they can compensate for it.
    2. I had the nasty habit of getting them off by putting one of my shoes on the back of the other. After 2.5 years of doing that, it's started to show: at the back of my heels there are small holes. I consider this to be my own fault, and a praise for magnum that it only happened after 2.5 years (I'm walking around with these holes for half a year, and they don't hinder too much). The new shoes I got have a zipper at the side: that should prevent me from repeating this mistake.
    3. I just noticed that at the bottem of the shoe the profile has been ripped. Right at the other side of the hard nose. I must have kneeled more often than I can remember for it to rip over there. I guess that with better care it could survive longer, but I can imacine that this should be a point for closer inspection.

How are they in different weather conditions?
The weather doesn't get too extreme over here, but I can say that in the winter, when there is snow all over the place, they kep my feet warm, while in the summer they aren't that warm. No matter the time of the year, my feet are in good hands. And also important: walking through pools isn't going to wet my feet.

    The verdict:
The shoes fit very good, are sturdy and prtect comfortably against everything the Dutch weather can throw at me. The weakest spot is the small cloth string hole, which rips within a few months. Luckily the strings are good enough to handle that. The strongest point is the general sturdiness: after three years of daily use and care neglect they are still pretty well.
