Magnum Desert Boot
By Rick 18/12/R
I first bought a pair of these boots in their first form a number of years ago before they were standard British Army Issue. I was after a good lightweight durable desert Patrol/Combat boot that would stand up to the rigours of Patroling.Zdielať
The issue boot was too heavy and got very hot so I decided to search for a boot that would be lightweight yet durable and keep my feet as cool as posible relating to the hot climate. After research on the internet I kept coming back to Magnum.Talking to fellow soldiers plus reading reviews the Desert Magnum was fast becoming very popular with British Soldiers.
As a private purchase I took them on my first deployment .Needing no breaking in I wore them straight from the box onto operations. The fit was spot on and they just felt right from the start. The fit was like wearing a pair of house slipers as the fit was so comfortable even after a long patrol.
The Desert terrain is not just a sand bowel but made up of hard rock to very loose shingle and irrigation ditches which would soak my boots right through but still caused no problems. The boots would dry out relivetly quickly.
If my boots were wet through after a patrol I would NOT leave them in the sun to dry as this would dry them out too quick and cause damage to them.My way was to put a damp towel over them and let them dry out at a controlled rate causing NO damage. This idea worked very well on the Magnums.
The grip on the Boot is very good on all terrain I encountered and exceptional when climbing on Amoured Personel Carriers , Tanks and Hesco Sangers. The boot itself is very flexible yet still gives very good ankle support.
The laceing system is well thought out with the mid ankle locking system very good for a speedy response to an alert.
I followed the cleaning instructions laid down by Magnum and they kept the boot in top shape.I took a small Spark Plug Brush with me to free up any dried mud and this worked wonders. The boot tread mainly was self cleaning and I had very few problem with mud clogging the grip.
One pair of Desert Magnums would more than last me the riggours of a 6 month tour and would be in great shape after.I have moved on to the Desert Spider for my next tour so I will give you all the feedback on these next year.
The Desert Magnums never let me down and I would certainly class them as priorty deployment Patrol Boots.
