After owning a pair of the spider 8.1 urban boots I thought I would give the spider 8.1 desert a run out. And what a run out. After two and a half months of being smashed across different terrain during my last deployment, I can say that they had been tested to destruction.
When I first took them out of the box and put them on, I was impressed by the level of comfort, and when you occasionally find yourself having to wear your boots for days straight without taking them off, comfort is very important.
The level of support was good as well. When crossing heavily ploughed ground that had been baked solid by the sun the chance of going over on your ankle is a real problem.
I was dissapointed though when the sole started to come away at the front of both boots, and before the end of the tour the boots had died.
They had taken a lot of punishment, being submerged in dubious liquids for hours on end followed by a 8km tab in baking sun, is not good for any form of footwear.
