I originally owned a pair of Dickies work boots....

I owned these boots for 5 years and wore them for 12 hours a day working within the railways as an electrician doing heavy installation work.
They lasted 5 years before the stitching on the sole started to come away and I needed to replace them - no other defects or damage to these boots apart from the dirt they acquired.

I was told about Magnum boots and decided to look into them.
After sending an email to Magnum informing them of the boots that I had been wearing and that I was looking for something just as durable, hard wearing, comfortable and waterproof. I had narrowed it down to the Stealth 8.0s or the Shield model.
Magnum advised me that the Stealth's would match my requirements and that I should go for those.
I ordered them and awaited eagerly for them to arrive, due to stock shortage this wait was longer then expected but they arrived within about 3 weeks.

Initially, they looked awesome! Lightweight and comfortable and felt good wearing them indoors walking about given them a 'dry run'.

However, on site was a different matter. Now we all know that our work boots are made to be worn and used and dread that first scuff we get on them but I didn't expect my first scuff to be so damaging!

Ive had my boots in use for about 7 weeks now and the durability of them are not cut out for hard wearing or heavy work.
I would say that these boots are more designed for people who just 'walk', 'audit' or 'inspect' work sites. They can not handle the day to day work load of tradesmen.

The leather on top of the toes has come away to expose the 'toe cap' which in my profession means that I will need to replace them as per company policy.
These boots are comfortable, they are lightweight and they are waterproof BUT they are not designed to be used as work site boots and I feel that Magnum should of advised better and maybe recommended the Shields as a more practical option that still ticks all the boxes especially as I advised Magnum of the boots that I were currently using and had been in the same pair for 5 years.

These boots for me, aren't cheap and at present I am unable to afford to buy the Shields to replace the Stealth's and if I was to put my trust back in the Magnum brand again I am slightly hesitant as, would I get the same performance out of the Shields as I did my Dickies? Or would they give up the ghost within 7 weeks just like the stealth's?

Looking into the Shield's reviews I feel that Magnum should of advised better. The Shield's also seem to have the same rubber toe protection as my Dickies did which would of resulted in no damage if they were on the Stealth's.

I am not giving up on the Magnum brand as I feel the Stealth's do work well if you only need them for 'managerial' site work - with no labour or install involved but if you do need to get 'hands on' with the tools then these boots are far from capable of handling that and you should maybe look at the Shields?!
