Add a Review Spider 8.1 Urban
First pair of magnums

Only other boots i have ever used are safety construction boots, cheap tactical boots, and 6inch hiking boots. Finally, i decided, i should get a pair of decent boots.Share
So after a lot of research and reading of reviews i decided to order the spider 8.1 urban (as it was the only variation of the model available to me)
I have a particular pet peeve which keeps bighting at me. It's NOT waterproof! i live in a tropical climate where it rains, everyday, and waterproofing is actually a very important thing to me. However, i read some reviews saying that it was relatively water resistant.
To help this, i bought some nikwax waterproofing agent and got it applied immediately. Then i tried to submerge my boots in water, and once the water level reached superfabric level, i started to feel water seep in. This is kind of a bummer for me, but i will have to live with it.
Next was the laces, as stated, yes, it's like tying your boots with a garrotte, but it does hold the knot pretty well
When i first put the boots on, it was a little ill fitting near the heel as i found that it would somewhat bite into it. After a day of wearing it, it's fine though. It'll probably be nicely broken into.
The sole has pretty good grip on wet surfaces, but if it's oil on tiles or marble, it'll still give way, but not as bad as it could be.
lastly is the finishing. i can see a lot of excess dried glue around the boot. I also saw a loose thread coming out from the tongue. This doesn't exactly affect the performance of the boot itself, but it's another detail i noticed
so that's for the con's, or things that annoy me, and now for the good things
After breaking in, it is extremely comfortable, i could walk in these for hours as the sole fits really well.
Despite the lack of waterproofing, it dries up pretty well too, and the leather is inherently waterproof. It beads up and just slides off the surface.
The positioning of the eyelets are actually different for me, but it's a welcomed change from what i'm used to. I can really tighten up the laces, and it won't feel like my feet's being suffocated. It's an awesome snug fit!
after i added on my own waterproofer, it actually held a lot better (but it's not a 100%). Splashes and running in the occasional puddle is fine, but submerging for long periods will soak your feet.
It does shine up pretty well, i bulled it for a good 30 minutes and it held a really nice healthy shine.
overall a solid boot, with a few minor setbacks. I do wish that all boots did come with waterproofing standard. It's common sense that everyone wants their boots dry.
i will try to update my views in the future, especially after tonight's PT session.
