Have owned these for 18months. I walk 2 miles to and from the train station, 5 days a week. (1000miles a year), this involves a mile on tarmac (no pavement) and a mile along a muddy footpath along the top of a railway cutting, which in summer has grass taller than me, and in winter turns into a bog.

I also use them to do the gardening (bushwhacking would be a more accurate desciption at the moment) and for rough shooting.

After 6 months, and finding that some of the expensive branded boots, supposedly specifically designed for the purpose, couldn't cope with my requirements, I decided to look at alternatives and finally decided on the Panther 8.0 SZ, due to:

    Pros
Weight - based on training shoe last, they would be light enough to wear all day and I wouldn't have to carry a pair of shoes in my bag to change into in the office.

Support & comfort - The last thing I wanted was to twist an ankle on the footpath, which runs along the top of a railway cutting and is in need of repair. I felt the 8" height would provide sufficient support without being too unyielding.

They feel just like a pair of trainers, and you can even feel stones through the sole, however there is sufficient cushioning.

Colour and style - The don't look out of place in the office.

Odour - They dont smell! Fantastic, I have another pair of expensive german desert boots and they smell as if the cat got them first.

    Cons
Side panels let in water in wet grass/rain, but are sufficiently waterproof for my requirements. They are perfectly adequate for wet weather when wearing a pair of overtrousers or gaiters, as the side panels are covered.

The action of repeatedly stuffing your foot into the boot using only the side zip puts strain on the stiching to the panel of material above the heel cup at the rear, as the material is squashed down repeatedly, this has caused the stiching here to deteriorate, resulting in an 1/2" long hole, this has occurde on both boots, but not a problem, just get the needle and thread out and its fine.

Not practical to wear with a 50litre pack going up Cader Idris, in this situation the sole cusioning was definetly insufficient (I felt every stone coming down), but then again, they are not designed for this.

    Conclusion
The Panthers 8" SZ are a durable pair of boots, fit is excellent, they are comfortable (but not with a heavy rucksack), they don't smell, all in all they are definetely fit for purpose.

    Thank you Magnum.
