I have had these boots for 3 months and have worn them quite often. I purchased them for firearms training and practice. While they are functional and comfortable, what could be great value priced boots, leaves a lot to be desired.

First the positives: There is no break-in for these boots. Right out of the box they are ready to go. Ankle support is excellent & I haven't rolled an ankle hiking (on rough terrain) or practicing shooting and moving drills. Their performance is sneaker-like. I believe that these boots have a steel shank, which adds a little "spring “to your step. The sole offers great traction on frozen ground, wet pavement, ice, and mud. I love the gusseted tongue, which not only keeps debris out, but also provides a great place to tuck the laces. The suede finish is easy to clean with a brush, but is even easier to clean if you apply some silicone spray.

For negatives, the same gusseted tongue that I love needs a loop to thread the laces through. The tongue does tend move around laterally and a loop would help to keep it in place. The laces themselves are of a low quality and start to fray and look a ratty quickly. They're holding together fine, but I will probably get paracord laces to keep up the boots' appearance. I don't care for the painted metal eyelets: they scratch easily and it's inevitable that the paint will chip off. So far, they still look okay. Lastly, the outsole has too much exterior detail, especially at the heel. There are three 's' shaped markings along with an arched marking directly above the Magnum logo that hold dirt and mud. The worst is a lip at the back of the heel, for which I see no purpose (other than looks) that picks up an unbelievable amount of mud. The mud packs in there tightly and cannot be kicked out. You have to dig it out with a small stick or finger. Better to make the heel flush with the rest of the sole.

While it has to be understood that the Response II boots are made to a price point, a few minor changes could make these exceptional value priced boots without effecting the price too much.
