Add a Review Viper II 6" WP

  • My Vipers failed the waterproof test in light rain

    By Jobber 05/10/2010

I purchased the Viper II WP because I wanted a waterproof boot while riding my motorcycle to work. This is my first pair of waterproof Magnums and expected the very best since this is the fourth pair of magnum boots that I've owned and I have always been highly satisfied with the brand. The previous pairs were non waterproof. This pair developed a leak after 5 1/2 months of service, soaking my feet and socks. The leak (in both pair) developed near the attach point of the tongue. This happened during a normal rain storm. The boots were never submerged. Other than leaking, the boots feel absolutely comfortable with no break in period. When not riding the motorcycle, I walk several miles at work and appreciate the comfort and support. The traction is terrific and the soles wear very well and usually last two years (Note:I ride a motorcycle that weighs over 900 pounds and the traction from the sole design helps in maneuvering that monster around tight spaces). The money I paid for these boots at Sears was a great value. Please perform a root cause - corrective action analysis to determine how this great boot could fail in the waterproofing department. Could it be a design failure? Perhaps you could use a seam sealant on the stitching at the tongue attach point.
