Soles: The WPi has Vibram soles who make the best soles in the word for all types of shoes. The grip has larger gaps as opposed to the WP, which means that small stones do not get stuck in your boot and make noise when walking on a hard surface. The bottom layer of the WP sole on my right boot came off after 1 year while the left boot lasted all of the three years that I was wearing them. I fully believe that the Vibram soles on the WPi will last longer. The WP soles wore down to the soft layer at the heel of the boot after three years, this happened because the soles were flat. This is improved in the WPi where the sole is curved at the heels allowing for a more even wear. Also the sole seems to be much tougher and more responsive at the arch. There is a small Vibram logo at the bottom of the boot on the WPi which is completely black, as opposed to the Magnum whitish see-through one of the WP, making your boot less visible when crouching or lying down.

Heel guard: This is a new feature which I really like. It is mat and made out of the same tough plastic as the lacing system, and is stitched to the leather. I think this is a useful feather as it would reduce the wear as opposed to if it was leather, also it will provide more protection for the heel.

Core: Very much improved since the WP. The mid lace flaps are sown down to the core, making cleaning and polishing easier, and reduces potential snagging. There are strips of soft leather inserted just above these flaps allowing for a point of bend which allows for better movement, also it allows the harder leather to stay smoother. Overall I think that they really trimmed the fat off the WPi. The leather has been tucked under other layers of leather to reduce curling, the synthetic mesh leather substitute has been reduced, useless flaps and folds where dirt can get stuck have been removed, while the overall style of the boot has been made to look more impressive than the WP. The top back profile of the boot has been lowered. Personally it feels unsupportive when not tucking your pants into the boots, while a lot better and manoeuvrable when you have the pants tucked in. The higher WP profile was slightly uncomfortable at times. Lastly the leather is as great as always, and after the first polish you will be amazed.

The Inside: The sizing is very regulated between the two boots. So if buying online you can be sure that you will be the same size as your previous boot. I am happy that the WPi has soft leather going down the back of the inside until where the tongue of the boot starts. This is an improvement since the WP, it had mesh going right to the top which did not look as nice and got worn over time. The back of the tongue and the rest of the inside is a black mesh which holds the insulating material. When wearing these boots I have never felt too hot or too cold. Also the boots wrap around your foot so uniformly that you can either wear really thin socks or two pairs of thick socks, and the boots will never be too tight or too loose. Both the WP and the WPi have stitching that runs down the back of the inside of the boot, which is a downside. The back of any shoe is a very high friction area and blistering can occur, having stitching running down exactly in the middle is undesirable. This can easily be altered by having the stitching go slightly to either side where the foot is not in full contact with the boot.

Final Thoughts: The WPi are great boots, there has been countless improvements since the WP. They are light, tough, have the best soles, more compact, and a breeze to clean. I would recommend these boots for anyone, you do not know what comfort feels like until you have worn these boots.
